I've owned several generations of Surfaces, and this is without a doubt the very best one. So all in all, I freaking love my Surface 7 Pro. If you ever find yourself without the type cover, note that you can enable a screen keyboard, and also a screen touchpad, for the pesky websites that don't deal well with regular touch taps (youtube, twitter). And it makes for a brilliant Steam streaming device. There is also a wireless HDMI dongle that can be good fun for connecting the Surface wirelessly to a TV. But that goes equally for Wacom pens, and will probably be fixed in due time. Some programs need some finessing to get the pen to work right, in the most recent version of Windows 10. So if you're going to rely on the pen, it's good to have a spare battery on hand. One massive advantage of the Surface 7 Pro is that it can be charged from any old USB charger, and not just USB-C/PD ones! Which means I can charge it (slowly, overnight) from my regular USB brick or power bank, and just don't bother bringing a dedicated charger with me when I'm traveling.Īlso note that the Surface Pen needs a battery, and a hard-to-come-by special one. It's perfectly suitable for culling or the occasional edit on the road, however. Personally, I find the screen a bit too small to be truly useful as an editing machine. The non-real time ones (DT/RT/SP) are a bit more annoying than usual, but work fine. I have found the faster ones (C1/LR) much more enjoyable to use than the slower ones, though (X5/ON1). You can run every RAW developer in the Surface so long as you're patient. But it can truly fill both roles, which is hugely valuable to me. It's not terribly fast as a laptop, nor particularly small for a tablet. I own one, and I have used it for photo editing. I'm hoping the SSD in the Surface Pro will make a bit of a difference.ĭoes anyone have personal experiences to share? Its running a bit slow at the moment due to some Windows issues I think, the laptop is about 5 yrs old. My current laptop is a Toshiba Satellite Intel i7 (+AMD Radeon graphics), 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD. If you have used either the Surface Pro 6 or 7, of any Intel version with Lightroom or Denoise, please comment your thoughts/opinions/experiences with it! How is the operating speed using LR and Denoise? I know 128gb is quite small for image file storage, so I'll be using external drives and cloud mainly for the storage. I've set myself a limited budget, so the highest spec Surface Pro 6/7 that fits into the budget is the Surface Pro 7 Intel i5, 8GB RAM, 128gb SSD version.

I'm looking for a Windows OS tablet for on-the-go photo editing, since my laptop is pretty clunky to carry around.

Hi, just wondering if anyone is able to offer some personal experience with using Microsoft Surface Pro 6 or 7 with Adobe Lightroom Classic CC, as well as Topaz Denoise AI.
